An elderly friend of mine gave me a quote by the late Martin Luther King Jr. that said, “Anybody can be famous; but not anyone can be important; because being important can only be achieved through the things we do.”

In the present business environment, lack of growth could be equated with the end for any entity. For this and other reasons, every company should always look for avenues for growth either through diversification, acquisition or through the expansion of their customer base.

But then, growth without proper care can be unhealthy for any organization because without proper care, focus on the little things that matter might be lost, or in the least start to dissipate. Many companies waste huge amounts of resources trying to win new clients while ignoring the valuable opportunities staring them in the face.

It is therefore imperative that we get close to our clients, get to know their wants, needs, goals and desires, as this will make us better placed to spot more opportunities and benefits from them. However, it only pays if we do something about those opportunities.
